A Flower II, pastel on paper, 9 5/8 x 8 3/8, signed lower right: MMK, Kincheloe’s landscapes and depictions of plant life recall her small hometown of Mobeetie, Texas. These floral images reflect a preoccupation with organic form, drawn against nondescript backgrounds and a variety of papers to emphasize form and color of the plant. Recently rediscovered, Kincheloe is celebrated for her charming floral pastel work, and recognized for her participation in the twentieth-century Texas art scene. Her education includes studies at Shreveport’s Centenary College, and a degree from Texas Women’s University. She also studied under Frank Klepper and Alexandre Hogue at the Klepper Art School, and went on to train at the New York School of Interior Decoration. Among her many accomplishments, Kincheloe was one of only six Texas artists to exhibit work in the Graphic Arts Exhibition at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. She resided in Dallas the latter half of her life.
