This is a 6 shot E. LeFaucheux cavalry pinfire pistol model 1858. Likely imported the the United States during the civil war. S/N "LF 1534" on the right frame 12 mm pinfire cartridge. Marked on the top of the round barrel, beach to muzzle "INV ON E. LeFaucheux BRle, PARIS". 6.25 in. blued barrel. The bore is bright left hand twist rifling only slight pitting near the muzzle. About 40% bluing intact on the entire gun replaced with a plum patination. The front sight and ejector rod are missing in action. The loading gate is marked with the letter "B" and the spring closure works fine as does the timing of the cylinder. Single-action. Original walnut grips with 90% finish remaining. The buttplate includes a lanyard ring for cavalry carry. Handling marks on the left grip. The Lefaucheux was the most imported firearm during the civil war to the Union cavalry. The French also carried the model 1858 while in Mexico in 1862. This gun is an antiqueand no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique gun is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm.
