Description
CITIZEN KANE
Half Sheet (22" x 28")
Very Fine- Rolled
RKO, 1941
All posters from this classic are challenging to find, and this Style B half sheet is no exception.
Archival tape reinforces several small tears on the left edge. Slight tanning is around the edge. Stamps and a sticker from the International Poster Exchange are on the verso.
Director Orson Welles' thinly veiled biopic of newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst was the subject of much controversy upon its initial release, much of it led by Hearst himself, who was incensed by Welles' portrayal of Charles Foster Kane - Hearst's screen incarnation. He forbade any mention of the film in his papers and even tried to purchase the negative to destroy it. Fortunately, the film survived Hearst's efforts and is widely hailed as one of the greatest movies ever made today.
This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.
