Decorated with a detailed depiction 'il ritorno da Montevergine', based on the signed watercolour by Saverio della Gatta (1777-1829), now in the Museo di San Martino in Naples, also illustrated in A. Caròla-Perrotti (op.cit.) catalogue number 207. Saverio Della Gatta and Alessandro D'Anna, and later Stefano Santucci, were artists hired by Domenico Venuti, director of the Real Fabbrica, to travel the country and make a record of all the regional costumes of the Kingdom. Their gouaches were widely used at the factory. Montevergine, also known as Partenio or Monti di Avella, is a limestone massif in Campania, central Italy, part of the Apennine chain. It is located near Avellino.
