Provenance:
A Private Collection of 20th Century Jewels (Lots 206 - 216)

Georges Fouquet (1862-1957) is well known for his exquisite, characteristically Art Nouveau creations made in collaboration with the artist Alphonse Mucha. However, as fashions began to change in the early 20th century, Georges responded by moving away from naturalistic themes in gold and enamel and began designing contemporary jewels with a bolder, more streamlined aesthetic. He particularly admired large gemstones and anything out of the ordinary. This pendant with a huge citrine of unusual cut, offset by a minimal yet elegant setting, is a prime example.
Condition
The citrine is a warm medium orange hue with some golden brown tones and excellent transparency and clarity. Under 10 X magnification, a few minor abrasions to some facets/facet edges seen. Girdle with a few small eye visible chips. Tip of pavilion also slightly abraded. Untested platinum with light surface wear commensurate with age. One claw signed G. Fouquet with a maker's mark and French assay mark (dog's head). Other two claws with spots of old solder to base - one with a rubbed number, possibly 7131 or 7181; the other with an old inventory number scratched in by hand. Gallery with another maker's mark and French assay mark (dog's head). Overall in good condition. Gross weight approx. 59.0 grams.

Fancy-cut citrine measures very approximately 40.0mm diameter, 23.7mm depth.

Later silk cord broken at one end and in need of repair. Additional images available on request.
