Alfred Hitchcock's first American movie was perhaps the biggest critical success of his long career, an adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's gothic mystery novel, Rebecca. The film was nominated for a stunning total of eleven Academy Awards and took the Best Picture award. It garnered Best Actor and Best Actress nominations for Laurence Olivier, a young Joan Fontaine, and a Best Director nomination for Hitch himself.
