Ruth Etting (1896 – 1978) was an American singer and actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who had over 60 hit recordings and worked in stage, radio, and film. Etting was the main competitor to Helen Morgan as popular “torch” singer in the 1920’s. Etting was the subject of the 1950’s Love Me or Leave Me starring Doris Day and James Cagney.
