Description
Edmund Physick (1726 – 1804). An Englishman, resident in Philadelphia, and previous to the outbreak of the revolution, Keeper of the Great Seal of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and such was officially associated with the Proprietaries of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Government thereof. He was the father of Philip Syng Physick, who was reputed to be the first great American surgeon, born in Philadelphia, July 7, 1768 and died in Philadelphia, December 15, 1837. Graduated from the College of the University of Pennsylvania in 1785, studied medicine under Dr. Adam Kuhn, a well-known Philadelphia practitioner and pupil of Linnaeus at the University of Pennsylvania. DS. 1 page. 7 ½” x 3 ¼”. Philadelphia, Aug. 17, 1773. Physick acknowledges receipt of “twenty-five pounds 2/6 currt. Mondy of Pennsylvania, in lieu of Fifteen pounds…per 300 acres of land on the west side…” Fine.
