Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Apache, ca. late 1890s to 1900s CE. A sizeable basket bowl that is hand-woven from native plant fibers, likely willow and devils claw, in light and dark brown. The piece is coiled, likely using a 3 rod foundation, the motifs radiate out from the circular center stacked triangles and zig zagging lines with men at each point. The Apache people have a longstanding basketry tradition, and basket making is among the most celebrated art forms in their culture. The pictorial elements are highly coveted by collectors.
