Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 800 to 400 BCE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel, the surfaces covered in brown pigment, while the shoulder is surmounted by a petite mouse. Behind the mouse is a narrow mouthpiece that emits a high-pitched whistling sound when air is blown into the spout. Size: 6.39" Diameter x 7.55" H (16.2 cm x 19.2 cm)
Provenance: Private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Restoration to both ears and both forearms of mouse, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines; vessel body and spout are intact. Vessel body and spout with abrasions, nicks, and fading to pigment, otherwise in great condition. Great sound emitted when whistle is played.
