Joe Louis vs. "Jersey" Joe Walcott Original 16mm Film Reel & Can
Other
Two 16mm film reels containing notable fights of the early-mid 20th century, including Joe Louis vs. "Jersey" Joe Walcott, ca. 1947-48, measuring 13.75" in diameter. Featuring approximately 4" of film to the first reel, with an additional 3" to the second, total length of film amounting to 2,600 feet. Labeled throughout are headlines references famous boxers, including: "JOE LOUIS"; "M. BAER/ GODY" [possibly Arturo Godoy]; "B. CONN/ GALENTO"; "SCHMELING/ B. BAER"; and "JACK DEMPSEY". Altogether, the two reels and cannister weigh 9.6 lbs., measuring 14.25" overall. Vinegar odor present due to acetate deterioration, with slight curling and looseness to outside film. To ensure longevity, should be stored in a cold environment. Otherwise, good condition.
According to consignor, this was owned by Joe Louis.
Joe Louis Barrow (1914-1981) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. Nicknamed "the Brown Bomber", Louis is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time, reigning as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 until his temporary retirement in 1949. In total, Louis was victorious in 25 consecutive title defenses, a record for all weight classes.
This lot comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
