Rome, Italy, April 1, 1938
Partito Nazionale Fascista, Scarce Fascist Italian Stock Certificate
PPDS
A bond certificate for the Italian National Fascist Party. 1p, measuring 13.75" x 19", Rome, dated April 1, 1938. A 25-year, 5% bond for 500 Lire, No. 003299. With 43 of 50 retained tickets. Flattened fold with additional creasing. Minor soiling and toning throughout. Small tears in places. Overall very good. Sold for over $500 in an R.M. Smythe Lugana Auction in 1992. Very scarce and of high historical importance. A recent sale online shows a very toned and creased example selling for 580 Euros.
The loan was raised by the Fascist Party in order to finance the Casa Littoria, which can be seen on the bond certificate. In 1938 the National Fascist Party of Italy inaugurated the Casa Littoria, or Casa del Fascio, as the party's local headquarters in the mid-sized city of Trento, in the Alps. Five years later in 1943, when the fascist government collapsed and Italy switched its allegiance from the Axis to the Allies, the Third Reich invaded Italy and made this building one of the seats of the newly-instituted Operational Zone of the Alpine Foothills.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
