2 Timor Textiles, Indonesia, 19th C.- Early 20th C. 1) A cotton hipcloth featuring a warp ikat pattern with a supplementary weft band of diamond shapes in various colors. This weaving technique, known as Songket, typically involves silk with supplementary metallic thread, but this particular piece is made of cotton on cotton. Size: 56'' x 23'' (142 x 58 cm). 2) Belt or Sword Decoration, Late 19th Century. The ceremonial regalia of Timorese warriors is elaborate, including many components such as sword covers or belts. These items are usually predominantly red, symbolizing bravery in Southeast Asia. This piece is crafted from plain cotton weave with supplementary weft wrapping and weaving. Belonging to the Atoni or Dawan people. Size: 60'' x 6'' (152 x 15 cm). Provenance: Ex Yosi Barzilai collection.
