Description
CLÉSINGER-SAND, Solange. Lettera autografa firmata ad Auguste Clesinger. Cannes, 24 Novembre 1870Bifolio in 8vo. 210x140 mm. Scrittura in nitido corsivo, inchiostro bruno.

George Sand's daughter writes a touching letter to her ex-husband who is leaving for the war: “Mon cher Clesinger I am deeply touched by your souvenir; but never before will I consider it as a final farewell… It is not a glorious death that you will see; c'est a la victoire. Cellini did not pass peri to the siege of Rome. Your connections with Bourbon and there is one in France where you can create unmissable ouvrages ..."Auguste Clesinger, 1814-1883, sculptor, married Solange Dudevant-Sand in 1847; they separated in 1852 but this letter testifies to the affection that Solange continued to feel for A. Clesinger. He promises him assistance in case he is injured: “If the bad thing happens when that accident arrives, let me instruct you and I don't have to wait in an instant that puts me at your disposal.”Interesting is the memory of Cellini, a sculptor like Auguste, who actively participated in the armed defense of Rome during the sack of 1527 and who, in his imaginative autobiography, attributes the death of Charles III of Bourbon-Montpensier to himself.Solange Dudevant, 1828 – 1899, daughter of George Sand, wrote short stories and novels. Under the name of Solange Clésinger-Sand she published her first novel, Jacques Bruneau, in 1870; a second book, Carl Robert, was published in 1887.
