Quest'opera è un ottimo riassunto degli strumenti ottici del Seicento e della loro costruzione, e comprende diversi dispositivi, come il microscopio binoculare e il telescopio, inventati da Cherubin.Chérubin d'Orléans è stato l'inventore dei binocoli da teatro e, in questo lavoro pratico sull'ottica, descrive sistematicamente la molatura delle lenti, la fabbricazione dei telescopi e illustra ogni aspetto dell'officina di un produttore di lenti in dettagliate tavole incise. Secondo Albermt, La dioptrique oculaire è "il trattato più esauriente sulla fabbricazione di lenti nel diciassettesimo secolo". Chérubin d'Orléans include resoconti dettagliati degli effetti che diverse lenti hanno sull'occhio e osservazioni delle stelle e della luna effettuate attraverso i telescopi di sua invenzione. L’Antiporta è incisa Gerard Edelinck (1640-1707) sul disegno di Jean le Pautre (1618-1682). First edition of this first and vast work on optics and optical instruments. This work is an excellent summary of seventeenth-century optical instruments and their construction, and includes several devices, such as the binocular microscope and telescope, invented by Cherubin. Chérubin d’Orléans was also the inventor of opera glasses, and in this practical work on optics, he systematically describes the grinding of lenses and illustrates every aspect of a lens maker's workshop in detailed engraved plates. According to Albert, La dioptrique oculaire is ‘the most exhaustive treatise on lens making in the seventeenth century. Chérubin d’Orléans includes detailed accounts of the effects that different lenses have on the eye and observations of the stars and the moon made through the telescopes of his own invention. The frontispiece was designed by Jean le Pautre (1618-1682) and engraved by Gerard Edelinck (1640-1707). The two double-page full-moon images feature cherubim (perhaps a visual pun on the author's name) at the corners wielding a variety of optical instruments, including a binocular telescope that Cherubin invented. The plates were designed by Cherubin and engraved by L. Cossinus. Other plates depict lens-grinding lathes and other apparatus, and microscopes and telescopes. One plate depicts the movement of sunspots on two solar discs.
