Buon esemplare.Rarissima edizione illustrata romana stampata dal Ruffinelli con l’errore dell’anno di stampa al frontespizio. Di particolare interesse le illustrazioni del libro II (con la fuga da Troia), VI (con l’ingresso nell’Ade), VIII (con Venere nella fucina di Vulcano), X (col duello tra Enea e Mesenzio), e IV con la tavola dedicata alla storia di Enea e Didone verticalmente distinta tra registro erotico (il rifugio nella grotta) e registro tragico (il suicidio).Annibale Caro (1506-1577), poeta e traduttore, deve la sua fama alla traduzione in endecasillabi sciolti dell'Eneide di Virgilio.

16mo; 105x50 mm. Full vellum binding. Gilt title on label on spine. Engraved titlepage within frame and printer’s device. Pp. [12], 476, [4]. 12 engraved plates on full page at the beginning of each chapter. Good copy.
A very rare Roman illustrated edition printed by Ruffinelli with the printing year error on the title page. Of particular interest are the illustrations in Book II (with the flight from Troy), Book VI (with the entrance to Hades), Book VIII (with Venus in Vulcan's forge), Book X (with the duel between Aeneas and Mesenzio), and Book IV with the plate dedicated to the story of Aeneas and Dido vertically divided between the erotic register (the refuge in the cave) and the tragic register (the suicide).Annibale Caro (1506-1577), poet and translator, owes his fame to his translation into "versi sciolti" of Virgil's Aeneid.
