Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Northern Thailand, Lanna, ca. 19th century CE. A fine hand carved wooden Lanna style Buddha, seated in half lotus position, with hands in the Bhumisparsa or Subduing Mara / Earth Witness mudra, atop a thick pedestal. Faint text incised on the surface wrapping around the pedestal from front to back, 2-3 rows on all sides-perhaps a dedication or prayer. The surface is painted in a golden hue with a red triangular motif on the front of the pedestal. Size: 4" L x 2.25" W x 8.75" H (10.2 cm x 5.7 cm x 22.2 cm)
According to the consignor, this piece was previously owned by the Portland Art Museum, Oregon.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010

Condition
Old inventory labels on the base. Inscribed text is indiscernible on the verso and other areas. Some minor surface chips and nicks, otherwise intact and very good. Fading to surface pigments.
