First Edition of English translation retaining design and format of the original German edition of 1906, First printing, printed in Belgium, the original price ["L5.95 net"] is imprinted on the backboard.
Illustrated hard boards [a little edge wear], large: 8.1/2" x 11.1/4"; unpaginated, 32 pages printed on high quality colored paper, 8 full-page and 1 double-page color plates, very good condition.
All through the winter the Root Children are asleep underground, but when spring comes Mother Nature wakes them up. Then the Root Children are busy cleaning and painting the beetles and bugs.
Sibylle von Olfers (1881-1916) was a German art teacher and a nun who worked as an author and illustrator of children's books. In 1906 she published her best-known work, "The Root Children" (original title: Etwas von den Wurzelkindern, "Something about the children from the roots").
Sibylle von Olfers had a very intimate relationship with her little sister who was born a few years after her. Because of her original ideas and her artistic talent, Sibylle created a very happy and fulfilled life for her sister. The picture-books, which she had written solely for her sister, brought a lot of cheerfulness into the life of the whole family.
