This is Rembrandt's first portrait of fellow artist (and friend) Dutch landscape painter Jan Asselijn (circa 1614-1652), known as "Krabbetje." Asselijn's left hand was deformed, which Rembrandt has disguised in the pose by having the hand tucked at the artist's hip.
