No. XXII of XXXII deluxe copies from a total edition of 558.Facsimile of the Lord Cunliffe copy. "The Trustees of the William Blake Trust initiated their series of facsimiles of Blake's Illuminated Books in 1950 by publishing a facsimile of the Stirling copy of Jerusalem. This copy is the only one known to have been completed by Blake in colour, but we were aware that there was another coloured version of the first twenty-five plates, owned by Lord Cunliffe. These, printed in a light red-brown ink, were painted in delicate water-colour washes, less brilliant than in the Stirling copy, but are quite as beautiful, and a few have variations of significance. There are six pages with Whatman's watermark dated 1818, whereas the only date appearing in the watermark on the pages of the Stirling copy is 1820, indicating that the Cunliffe set is almost certainly an earlier version." - Geoffrey Keynes, Commentary and Bibliographical History. Includes prospectus. Previous owner's return address label on front pastedown.
