Description
Hand-drawn illustration of Washington D.C and Georgetown, land reclamation. An exceptionally rare item originating from Washington, D.C., featured as an exhibit in a Supreme Court case. Dating back to approximately 1879-1899, this hand-drawn map was among the exhibits displayed in the case of MORRIS v. UNITED STATES. The case centered on property rights disputes involving numerous landowners and encompassed reclaimed land and dredging activities adjacent to the Potomac River. The disputed area comprised 600 acres located west of the Washington Monument, which included prominent landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and Potomac Park. Ultimately, in 1899, the Supreme Court ruled against the landowners. This artifact from Washington, D.C., is in overall very good condition, with guaranteed authenticity. Dimensions: 30” x 17”.
