Ancient Bronze Age Large Geometric Spectacle Fibula ca. 1300 - 800 B.C. Size 6 3/4 inches length, 2 1/2 inches wide. Fine geometric bronze spectacle fibula, composed of a large and tightly twisted lower circular spiral element, with eight spiral elements above. On the reverse, one end of a long wire is sharpened to form the pin, the other end is bent over to form the catch. Overall rich blue-green surface patina. A beautiful example. Cf. M. Comstock & C. Vermeule, Greek, Etruscan and Roman Bronzes in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1971. Nos. 267 & 335 for similar examples. Provenance: Ex East Coast collection acquired from Fortuna Fine Arts.
