Description
First Nations, Canada, Inuit, ca. mid-20th to 21st century CE. Underside of caribou is signed with "205904" and syllabics spelling out the name "Annie Niviaxie." An adorable pair of soapstone carvings of animals. The first and larger featuring a perched bird extending his head to his left via a long neck with incised feathers. To his right, he raises a large wing, while a petite tail and feet extend out below him. Alternatively, the second sculpture is in the form of a seated caribou with a raised head and inserted antlers carved from the antler of an actual caribou. Size of larger (bird): 3" L x 4.9" W x 5.7" H (7.6 cm x 12.4 cm x 14.5 cm)

Condition
Underside of caribou is signed with "205904" and syllabics spelling out the name Annie Niviaxie. Caribou is missing proper right ear; antlers are removable. Both have some nicks and abrasions to surface but are otherwise intact and excellent. Label reading "Canada / Eskimo Art" on underside of caribou.
