Description
CONTINENTAL MAJOLICA CERAMIC FIGURAL HUMIDORS, LOT OF THREE, each depicting a mustachioed man with bright polychrome hand-painted decorations, comprising one example depicting a figure reading a paper with sponge holder top, and two squinty-eyed characters including one holding a billy club and one with a crescent-shaped horn. Marks to underside include two having impressed "J.S." shield and each with various numerals. Josef Strnact, Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia; and other. Late 19th/first quarter 20th century. 9" HOA.

Squinty-eyed examples having excellent visual condition, horn example having professional restoration and paint touch-ups to hat brim and collar and billy club example having some areas of professional restoration including top jacket edges, hat, bottom rim and sprayed interior; paper reader having minor chip to hat brim, minute flake to corner of paper, and some glaze wear to lower collar.
