Description
2 19th Century Nigerian Bura Rat Tail Iron Arrows w/ Their Original Shafts. There have been a few of these make it out of Niger in to the collector market over the past century. Havnt seen any for sale that still had their original shafts though. The shafts are interesting to inspect. They have highs and lows (kind of wavy) as you look down the shaft. They were obviously fashioned by hand in a primitive manner. One of the arrows has a lot of arch to it. The limb or small tree it was made of likely curved as it dried out over the years. They have what appears to be a sinew wrap with tar below the notches and holding the spear tips firmly in place on the shaft. The tips are intricately engraved with rat tail barbs still intact. If they ever had a fletching there is no sign of that on the shafts. These are outstanding examples from the Bura Culture. They measure between 33 and 34" with one being just a little longer than the other. The iron spears no doubt are inserted in bore holes for a distance in to the shaft. If they are the standard size of most Bura iron arrow tips they will measure between 5 and 8 inches if they were to be removed.
