1861-Dated Civil War Period Engraved Color Print titled, "Fortress Monroe, Old Point Comfort and Hygeia Hotel, Va.", "Publ & Sold by C. Bohn, Washington, D.C.", Fine.
This Civil War Period Virginia theme Print is titled: "Fortress Monroe, Old Point Comfort, and Hygeia Hotel, Va." depicting the landscape and waters surroundings of Old Point Comfort, including the fortress, the Hygeia Hotel, and possibly other notable features of the area, including the various period ships both sail and steam. It would serve as both a historical record and a piece of art capturing the beauty and significance of the location during the time it was created. The wove paper sheet measures a large 22.5" tall x 31.75" long. Overall, light even tone with heavier tone from prior framing at its outer edge, one hidden 2" split at top right, having a few scattered heavier tone spots within the print. At bottom left the small text reads: "Drawn From Nature, Lith. & Print by E. Sachse & Co. 104 S. Charles St. Balto. (Baltimore)".
