Description
Canadian. Toronto, Ontario. 1840s. Salt-glazed stoneware. Rare. Early and desirable Canada West ovoid jug. Although not marked Toronto, research confirms that Angus McIntosh operated his grocery, wine/spirits and tea store in Toronto during the 1840s, first located on Lot Street then later on Queen Street near St. Patrick's Market. Maker is attributed to the Samuel Hart pottery in Fulton, New York. Stamped, "Augus. McIntosh / Importer Of / Groceries. Wines / Spirits. &C." (Angus is misspelled). 13" x 9.75" x 9.75".
Condition
Excellent. Two tiny flakes off the base on the right side.
