Item Details
Description
Oliver Peoples 1986 i'dentity Sunglasses by Larry Leight W/Case and Cloth - These rare and iconic i'dentity sunglasses were designed by Larry Leight in 1986. There are perhaps no other frames surrounded by as many legends and stories as the infamous i'dentity. Designed by Larry Leight, the founder of Oliver Peoples, the i'dentity is rumored to have been the frame that was at the start of the entire Oliver Peoples success story. While many consider it to be the first Oliver Peoples frame, it is actually branded only with "i'dentity LA", accompanied by the creator's initials LL and the date of production, 1986. According to the legend, Larry Leight designed the i'dentity exclusively for Andy Warhol, and only five pieces were ever produced. The image of Andy Warhol wearing the i'dentity remains one of the greatest portraits in popular culture. The craftsmanship of the frame is stunning, and only very few manufacturers would have been able to produce such a frame in 1986 with the unique flip-up lens mechanisim. According to our seller, these sunglasses were found in his father's items after his passing, who was also in the fashion eyewear business and friends with Larry Leight. This pair is also thought to be the only gold tone frame out of the five. The sunglasses include the original i'dentity case and cloth. Item Note From Seller: The buyer or GWS can reach out to Larry Leight to confirm my statements. Larry Leight knows my step mother, Charlene Mason Keller, my deceased father, Gerald (Jerry) Keller and their mutual employer Marvin Freeman also deceased. They all worked together in the 1970s at Optique Classique, later called Optica. My dad, Jerry, was in charge of opening all the Opitca stores for Marvin including the stores in Texas, (Galleria in Houston and Dallas), Chicago, and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. This all would have been done in the 1980's. In regards to these particular glasses, they were in my father's office along with multiple other piece of eyewear like Cartier, Gucci, Fred, Neostyle, Silhouette and many others, all stored since the 1980s. I cannot tell where they obtained but they are not reproductions, fakes or made to deceive.
