Description
Photographic album with an original watercolor adhered to inside front cover. The accomplished watercolor is of male passengers lounging on deck and appears to be a sheet from an artist sketchbook. We can speculate that the artist was traveling on the same ship as the individual who assembled the photographs and annotated the album. The right facing sheet is annotated: Cornwall Coast...July (4th) (1897)" and appears to to reference the watercolor. The artist's monogram is not legible. Text on the upper left of the watercolor reads: "A tale of..." Photographs depict: Kenilworth Castle, England, James Valentine (photographer); York Minister, England, James Valentine (photographer); Heidelburg Castle, Germany; The Matterhorn from the Riffelhaus, 1930, Edition Photoglob (Zurich, Swiss); Panorama from the Kleine Scheidegg, Edition Photoglob. 30 x 8 1/2 (largest); 8 3/8 x 10 1/2" (print) ; 5 1/4 x 7 3/8" (watercolor).
