Description
A c Gandharan or nearby culture Bronze or other similar alloy Buddha. I have not seen another Buddha like this- a combination of thin-walled bronze casting combined with very thick repousse/finishing work that is extremely precise. (especially on the actual body- note the precision on the hair). It is so old (possibly in a sealed chamber for a millennium or longer based on the way the corrosion landed on the tops of arms and lap, and the way much of the metal has corroded away with so little wear). Surprisingly solid for how frail it appears. I had the custom base made to cradle it safely and to present it in the best way possible. See the photo with the ruler in it shows the size. Beautiful flowing robes. Possibly had inlaid eyes. Showing the effects of time and gravity-it is literally collapsing in on its self. This is a sign of its authenticity, as the way this has happened would be very hard to do. artificially. A very rare survivor.
