Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Central Europe, Germany and Austria, Danube River Basin, Hallstatt culture, ca. 8th to 6th century BCE; Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A wonderful ensemble of ancient jewelry: 3 Hallstatt bronze torc necklaces and a Roman leaded bronze bracelet. The 3 necklaces present nearly identical forms, each with a tight spiral design curved into an omega form with hammer-flattened terminals that curl into delicate tubular loops. Alternatively, the Roman bracelet is comprised of a ribbon-like strip of leaded bronze with 2 convex faces, coiled into a ring so that the gently flared terminals overlap one another. A pair of incised, dashed striations wrap horizontally around the exterior of the bangle. This example was likely part of a bracelet bell, which would have been hung from the neck of a small animal or worn as a talisman or anklet by a servant. Size of largest: 5.7" Diameter (14.5 cm); Size (between terminals of largest): 2.7" W (6.9 cm)
