Description
A rare set of 120 miniature Thangkas or Tsaklis was used to train the young monks in learning the large pantheon of deities in Tibetan Buddhism and the Bon religion. This type was sometimes sewn together into a long banner displaying the sew holes, which suggests that they may have been sewn together into a very long string at one point. You occasionally find one of these for sale but rarely find a set of 120 still together. Each has the name of the deity pictured on the front and written on the back. Time darkens them, and the butter fat lamps are otherwise in superb condition. Approx. 10% of them are shown in the photos- they are typical of the other 90% and were chosen randomly to be photographed for this listing. Each is 3.75 inches by 3.25 inches and is painted on a canvas-like fabric. They come in a photo album in no particular order. You are unlikely to find another set like this again. I have owned this set for almost 30 years, and I've only seen other sets that appeared to be complete and were for sale in all that time. The starting price has been lowered. Now (buying the group), they have a starting price of under $25 EACH + auction fee and shipping. Price reduced significantly (close to half) from the original.
