A military ensemble including a green Safari jacket and a pair of cotton twill green herringbone cargo pants. The jacket is single-breasted, has four patch pockets, a notch lapel, wide collar, epaulets, draw-string waist, and adjustable button cuffs, size stamped 34R. The low-waist pants have a button-closure fly, two cargo pockets at the upper leg, and cut loose, size tag reads "W32, L33." 

The ensemble comes with two pipped khaki twill garrison caps, a cotton army green bucket hat, two taupe wool ties, a pair of thick wool socks, and an army messenger bag lined with green vinyl. 

In 1944, at the age of 18, Hefner enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantry clerk. Although he never appeared on the front lines, Hefner's service included creating cartoon illustrations for Army newspapers such as Fort Pickett News.
