Nien Cheng 念鄭 or Zheng Nian 鄭念 (January 28, 1915 - November 2, 2009) was the pen name of Yao Nien-Yuan (姚念媛). She was a Chinese author known for recounting her experiences during the Cultural Revolution in her memoir Life and Death in Shanghai.
ARTIST BIO: Zhao Shao'ang 趙少昂 (March 6, 1905 - January 28, 1998) formerly known as Yuan, courtesy name Shuyi, originally from Panyu, Guangdong, is a Chinese painter. Together with Li Xiongcai, Guan Shanyue and Yang Shanshen, they are known as the four famous masters of the second generation Lingnan School of Painting. Zhao studied under the master Gao Qifeng of the Lingnan School, and was also inspired by the famous Lingnan master Gao Jianfu. He devoted himself to modernizing the art of Chinese painting and had a profound impact on bringing Chinese painting art to the world. Zhao is good at painting flowers, birds, insects, fish, figures and animals, and landscapes. He is especially famous internationally for his flower-and-bird paintings.
