Description
PROVENANCE:

William Worthing March (1940 - 2023) was the proud owner of a kennel club in Florida where he raised racing greyhounds in his early career. Later in life he became a jeweler and opened his own jewelry store. It was through this business that he was able to purchase from estates a collection of fine porcelains that have been consigned to us to sell at auction. During his career he had the opportunity to travel to many foreign countries also adding to his collection.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain Fish Grass Jar. Potted in jar shape, cylinder body, heavy in the shoulder, thick potted, deep curvature, slight tall and gentle upward to short round opening lip, raised on round foot base. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base color which contrast against blue fine color, depicted of big carp jump above water plants, grass and thrashing Lishui rivers. The Carp Similar sounding to the word Business in Chinese, the carp symbolizes a wish for benefit or advantage in business, and accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
