Ca. AD 1800-1900.A rectangular-shaped carnelian intaglio with a finely rendered portrait of the goddess Minerva (Greek Athena). She is depicted facing left, wearing an elaborate headdress. The intaglio is set in a gold finger ring. Minerva was widely recognized as the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and strategic warfare. Her esteemed position in the pantheon was further enhanced by her embodiment of various virtues, including wisdom, courage, and justice.
