Description
Native American, United States, Columbia River Plateau region, ca. 1920s to 1930s CE. A pair of smoke-tanned elk gauntlets, handmade by Native American Plateau tribe member. They are beaded with floral patterns portraying red and yellow flowers on green leafy stems. Likely a man's size with a fringed cuff. The United States Cavalry riders wore gauntlet gloves as part of their uniform, introducing the clothing style to Native tribes who turned the gloves into spectacular works of art with painstaking beadwork. Gauntlets were adopted into their regalia and fancy wear for powwows. Size: 13.5" L x 7" W (34.3 cm x 17.8 cm)
