Description
1803 Don Quixote Cervantes Chivalry Smollett English Glasgow Scotland 4v SET
"Small wonder if the world received Don Quixote with delight! There was nothing like unto it before: there has been nothing to eclipse it since".
– Rius, D. Leopoldo
An early 19th-century English translation of Cervantes masterpiece – “Don Quixote”. Tobias Smollett translations are considered highly readable. Smollett was a popular author in his own right, and much of the popularity of this translation was due to his previous fame rather than the quality of his translation. There is also some scholarly speculation on whether Smollett knew Spanish! (Linsalata, 115).
This four-volume edition was published in 1803 in Glasgow, Scotland.
