Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 100 CE. A handmade pottery dish or shallow bowl - slipped in an umber red hue and the interior basin is painted with creamy white stripes and stippled patterning. Pottery played a significant role in Nayarit burial practices, vessels and figurines were buried in shaft tombs alongside the deceased. These vessels could contain offerings of food, drink, and other items for the deceased's journey to the afterlife and were often vibrantly painted. Size: 8.25" Diameter x 1.5" H (21 cm x 3.8 cm)

Condition
Professionally repaired and restored from several large pieces with infill and overpainting to break lines. Breaks are nearly indiscernible. Nice manganese deposits on the surface. Old inventory label on base.
