This rare 1st edition, published by Estienne, is illustrated with 24 full-page engravings by J. P. le Bas. These images depict mythological beings and creatures, sculptures and art of ancient Egyptian gods, and other important historical esoteric and pagan symbols.
In this work, Pluche “restated his opposition to the cosmologies proposed by physicists. He also attempted to demonstrate that monotheism preceded polytheism.” (DSB).
