Description
A carved wooden dance mask in classic style, weathered kaolin clay pigments, tall central crest coiffure and well handled edges. Such masks were worn by male performers of a stilt dance called "mukudj," which involved towering impressively while executing complex choreography and astonishing feats of acrobatics. Punu peoples, Gabon, Africa. This mask measures 12 x 7 inches. A metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: Dr Noble & Jean Endicott, New York, also a private New Jersey collection.
