Description
Ura Tyube Suzani, Tajikistan, Early 19th C., 6'1'' x 7'8'' (185 x 234 cm). Silk on cotton ground. See Plate 30, Khans, Nomads & Needlework :Suzanis and Embroideries of Central Asia, 2012. "Gracefully curving stems with bow tie leaves support serrated rosettes with two rings of petals separated by an unembroidered gap. (An empty line is probably more difficult to embroider than a line of running stitches.) Narrow leaves, serrated on the outer edge, surround each rosette. Some have a hint of a recurving tip...Almond leaves and botehs with a blue-apricot bicolor like Shahrisyabz suzanis grace thin vines with curlicues to fill spaces left by the rosettes. Delicate minor borders add to the charm of this piece. Vines growing upward and leaves drooping downward give a satisfying directionality." RF. Provenance: The Collection of Russell S. and Dona Fling, Columbus, OH.
