Pair of large antique Chinese paintings on silk, after (or possibly by?) Italian Jesuit and court painter to the Chinese emperor Qianlong, Giuseppe Castigilione, (1688-1766, also known as Lang Shining,) or his workshop, from his series "Ten Fine Hounds", paintings of the emperor's dogs. Each painting having a red double dragon seal in upper left, as used by the Chinese Imperial court during the Qing Dynasty, and each inscribed with the Chinese character 'Qing". Finely painted on silk mounted with paper backing, likely removed from original scrolls, later mounted to masonite. The paintings appear to have authentic age. Minor tears to silk, minor water stains, toning. Each approx. 23 3/4" x 42".
