Description
**Originally Listed At $450**
Latin America, Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. 19th century CE; Europe, ca. 20th century CE. A fabulous pair of paintings: a Spanish Colonial tin retablo of the Hoy Trinity and a European painted copper portrait set in a twisted brass wire frame. First, the retablo displays Father, Son, and Holy Ghost depicted in white, blue, and red robes respectively and hold distinguishing symbols on their breasts. The Father with a sun and holding a scepter at the center; the Son at his right with a lamb; the Holy Ghost at his left with a dove. All 3 have halos of holy light radiating from their visages. Their feet hover above a blue terrestrial globe signifying their dominion over the universe, all set behind glass in an iron frame. Alternatively, the copper portrait shows a man who vaguely resembles Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany with a white-forked beard and regal dress. He is set in a brass frame of twisted wires with a cross at the top and a loop at the bottom, all decorated with leaves, flowers, and a cross. Size of larger: 3" L x 4.3" W x 6" H (7.6 cm x 10.9 cm x 15.2 cm)
