Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Western Europe, Medieval to post Medieval period, ca. 13th to 17th century CE. This is an iron star shaped implement that was identified as a mace or flail head or some type of weapon for inflicting blunt force wounds, with a central socket for hafting to handle. The function is not entirely clear - note the vertical groove on both sides between the sets of spikes on both sides ? the shape is unlike most mace heads with spikes that run equatorially. Perhaps this was a ceremonial or ecclesiastical knop fitting for a crozier staff or banner pole rather than a weapon. Size: 3" L x 2.25" W (7.6 cm x 5.7 cm); 4.3" H (10.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
