Description
Vintage 1956 Oklahoma Indian Cookbook by Mae Abbott, illustrated by Acee Blue Eagle. Signed by both.
Printed wrapper, in very nice condition. 26 pages, none missing or torn.
Acee Blue Eagle rejected the mainstream style of art in favor of the emerging Native American style.
In the early 1930s he accepted a WPA job painting murals at Coalgate Post Office, Central State College of Edmond, Oklahoma College of Women at Chickasha, the Carnegie Library in Muskogee, Seminole Post Office and the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Muskogee. A mural was also created for the U.S.S. Oklahoma, lost at Pearl Harbor.
Mae Abbott's mother was of the Choctaw tribe and married a young White man from Tennessee who then settled in the Indian Terratory. Ever since those early days when Mae's mother taught her to cook, she's made an art of cooking that is a glorious praise to her mother.
