10 1/2" Chinese Crackle Center Bowl Decorated with Warrior Scenes and Marked with Brown Etched Chenghua Marking
Location of Manufacture:Period of Manufacture: Marked Chenghua (1465-1487) ; 1st Half 20th Century
Dimensions: 10 1/2" diameter at rim ; 5"(h)
Weight: 6 pounds, 4 ounces
For your consideration is a large Chinese center bowl with crackle glaze and 'warrior' decoration. The bowl is a rather tall example of this form with vertical walls whose interior is decorated with dragons, flaming pearls and a central crane figure amongst stylized clouds. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with a circumferential 'warrior' scene in the famille rose palette. The underside of the bowl is marked with a brown, incised marking reading "Chenghua Nian Zhi" (Chenghua Period Make), though the bowl was made from between the Guangxu (1875-1908) to Republic Period (1912-1949).
