Description
This is your chance to own an Eagle-Watson United States Auto Club (USAC) Championship Car that placed 13th in the 1971 Indianapolis 500. Mike Mosley, the driver, who suffered a broken leg and elbow plus serious burns, was involved in a wreck with Bobby Unser, who ironically drove this car for the Wilke Team the prior couple of years, in turn 4 on lap 167 of the Indianapolis 500. Mosley hit the outside wall causing the car to careen down the track to the inside wall. Unser, immediately behind Mosley, struck the wall trying to avoid Mosley and his car burst into flames and bounced off the wall with great velocity, and headed to the infield.Mosley's car flipped and ignited as it hit Mark Donohue's stranded car in the infield. Gary Bettenhausen stopped his car and assisted pulling Mosley from the wreckage. Bettenhausen was able to continue on, but Mosley was removed to Methodist Hospital where he spent many weeks recovering. When car builder A.J. Watson saw the destroyed #2 car back in Gasoline Alley he swore it would never race again. Watson had the car crushed into a cube and gifted it to a recovering Mike Mosley as a memento of his experience in the 1971 Greatest Spectacle in Racing.REF#WPN5001
