Description
The Offenhauser race engine was the engine of choice for the small dirt tracks and the large Brickyard for many years. With the immediate success of midget racing in the 1930s, Gilmore approached Fred Offenhauser and Leo Goossen about building a reliable, stout, racing engine that teams could buy. The result is what today is known as a "Midget Offy." The scaled-down four-cylinder engine was expensive, but the engine of choice for winners. Early engines were carburated followed by fuel-injected versions.Offered here is a polished "Midget Offy" from the estate of a Texas collector. This inline power plant was built for his Kurtis-Kraft midget, but the project was never completed. After being in storage for 20+ years, Offenhauser engine builder and respected machinist, Steve Truchan finished the assembly of the engine and completed a thorough inspection and validated the engine.RN#BLS6154
