Item Details

Description

Group of three American folk art whimsies with carved animals and figures from a cache discovered in southeastern Massachusetts and presumably made by the same person. Each is overpainted in "radiator" gold but bear evidence of earlier colors beneath (red and/or silver, mostly). Metal stamps were used to mark the sides of more complex examples identifying "PIG," "C"hicken, etc.
This group includes fragments of an incomplete whimsey with a large "M" contained within a spherical frame and surmounted by a cup.
